At Northern Home, we believe in transparency and respect for your privacy. We've designed our platform with your privacy in mind. Here's the short version: we don't sell your data, we don't use tracking cookies, and we don't spam you with emails.

We only collect information that's necessary to provide our service:

• Account Information: Email address, username, and password (encrypted) when you create an account
• Recipe Data: Recipes you create, save, or interact with
• Profile Information: Any optional profile details you choose to add
• Payment Information: Processed securely through Stripe - we never see or store your full credit card number

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have specific rights regarding their personal information:

• Right to Know: You can request what personal information we've collected about you
• Right to Delete: You can request deletion of your personal information
• Right to Opt-Out of Sale: You can opt out of the sale of your personal information
• Right to Non-Discrimination: We won't treat you differently for exercising your rights

Currently, we do not send marketing emails or newsletters. If we add a mailing list in the future:

• ✅ It will be strictly opt-in - you must actively choose to subscribe
• ✅ You can unsubscribe at any time with one click
• ✅ We will never add you automatically just because you have an account
• ✅ Your email will never be shared with third parties

• 🔐 Passwords are securely encrypted and never stored in plain text

• 🔐 Payment processing is handled by Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment processor
• 🔐 We use Firebase/Google Cloud infrastructure with built-in security

You have full control over your data. You can delete your account at any time from your Profile settings. When you delete your account, we remove your personal information, recipes, and associated data. If you need assistance or have questions about data deletion, please contact us.

By accessing or using the Northern Home website (NorthernHome.food), mobile application, or any related services (collectively, the "Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Platform.

Northern Home reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Platform. By using Northern Home, you represent that you are at least 13 years old. Users under 18 must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

To access certain features of the Platform, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to keep your account information up to date. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.

Northern Home reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or are inactive for an extended period.

4.1 Ownership & Representation

By submitting a recipe, photograph, video, or any other content ("User Content") to the Platform, you represent and warrant that:

• You are the rightful owner of the recipe and all associated content, or you have obtained all necessary permissions from the original creator to submit it.
• The User Content does not infringe upon the intellectual property rights, copyrights, trademarks, or other proprietary rights of any third party.
• All photographs, images, and media you upload are your own original work, or you have explicit permission from the rights holder to use and distribute them.
• The User Content does not contain any material that is defamatory, obscene, offensive, or otherwise in violation of applicable law.

4.2 License Grant to Northern Home

By submitting User Content to the Platform, you grant Northern Home a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable license to use, reproduce, display, distribute, modify, and create derivative works of your User Content in connection with the operation and promotion of the Platform. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Displaying recipes on the Platform in recipe cards, search results, and browse pages.
• Including recipes in user-created and system-generated cookbooks.
• Featuring recipes on the landing page, trending sections, and promotional materials.
• Sharing recipe previews on social media or email communications to promote the Platform.
• Displaying recipes in any current or future feature of the Platform.

This license continues for as long as your User Content remains on the Platform. You retain full ownership of your original content.

4.3 Content Removal

You may delete your own recipes and associated content at any time through the Platform. If you are unable to remove content through normal means, you may contact Northern Home to request removal. Upon account deletion, your User Content will be removed from the Platform, though cached or archived copies may persist for a reasonable period as part of routine backup procedures.

The following activities are strictly prohibited:

• Using automated tools, bots, crawlers, scrapers, or any other automated means to access, collect, copy, or download recipes, images, user data, or any other content from the Platform.
• Copying, reproducing, or republishing recipes, photographs, or any other content from the Platform on another website, application, blog, social media page, or any other medium without the express written permission of the recipe owner.
• Downloading, aggregating, or compiling recipes or content from the Platform for the purpose of creating a competing service, database, cookbook, publication, or collection of any kind.
• Selling, licensing, or distributing recipes or content obtained from the Platform for commercial or personal gain.
• Using any content from the Platform for the purpose of training artificial intelligence models, machine learning systems, or similar technologies without prior written authorization from Northern Home.
• Circumventing or attempting to circumvent any security measures, access controls, or technical restrictions implemented on the Platform.

Northern Home reserves the right to pursue all available legal remedies against individuals or entities that violate these prohibitions, including seeking injunctive relief and monetary damages.

The Platform, including its design, layout, graphics, logos, icons, code, software, and all other proprietary elements (excluding User Content), is owned by Northern Home and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

The Northern Home name, logo, and all related branding are trademarks of Northern Home. Unauthorized use of any Northern Home trademark is prohibited.

Users may share links to recipes on the Platform via social media or other means. When sharing a recipe from Northern Home, users and third parties must provide proper attribution to the recipe author and include a link back to the original recipe on the Platform.

Reproducing the full text of a recipe (including ingredients and instructions) outside the Platform without the recipe owner's explicit permission is prohibited.

Northern Home offers free and paid subscription tiers. By subscribing to a paid plan, you agree to pay the applicable fees as displayed at the time of purchase.

• Subscription fees are billed on a recurring monthly basis unless canceled before the next billing cycle.
• You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Upon cancellation, your subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing period.
• Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis at the sole discretion of Northern Home.
• Northern Home reserves the right to modify subscription pricing with reasonable advance notice to existing subscribers.

Northern Home is a community-focused platform. All users are expected to interact respectfully. The following behaviors are prohibited:

• Harassment, bullying, or threatening other users.
• Posting spam, unsolicited advertisements, or promotional content unrelated to cooking and recipes.
• Impersonating another user, public figure, or Northern Home staff.
• Submitting false, misleading, or intentionally harmful recipe content.
• Attempting to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or private data.

Northern Home reserves the right to remove content and suspend or ban accounts that violate these community standards, at its sole discretion and without prior notice.

Your use of the Platform is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.

The Platform is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Northern Home makes no warranties, express or implied, regarding the Platform.

Northern Home does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any recipe, nutritional information, or other content submitted by users. Users follow recipes at their own risk and should exercise their own judgment regarding food safety, allergens, and dietary needs.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Northern Home and its owners, operators, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Platform, including but not limited to damages resulting from recipes, food preparation, allergic reactions, or reliance on any content available on the Platform.

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Northern Home and its owners, operators, employees, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses arising out of or related to your use of the Platform, your User Content, or your violation of these Terms.

Northern Home may terminate or suspend your access to the Platform at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Platform will immediately cease.

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which Northern Home operates. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration or in the courts of the applicable jurisdiction.
